The first station of the Baruipur-Diamond Harbor railway is an old temple in the Kalyanpur region, on the banks of the Adiganga, in the Kalyanpur region. Today where history whispers. Although popularly known as Baba Buroshiva Temple, the actual name of this temple is Kalyanamadhav Temple. The town here is named Kalyanpur after the deity of this famous temple.

Maharaja Lakshmanasena of the Sen dynasty is generally credited with  the original founder of this ancient Shiva temple. This Shiva Linga and its beautiful temple, worshiped by the princes of the Eksam Sena dynasty, are mentioned in the Mansa Mangal of Vipradas Pipalai, written in the late fifteenth century. It is said that Shiva devotee Chand Saudagar used to worship Kalyanamadhav and start his trading journey.

Again  this very temple finds mention in Raiman gal of the seventeenth century, this famous temple. However, sadly, the former form and glory of this beautiful temple, famous for history, has sunk in the womb of time.

Today, there is a beautiful temple in the Jorbangla style with five pinnacles. Although seemingly similar to other ordinary Shiva temples, this temple has certain peculiarities that sets it apart from the several other Shiva temples of Bengal.

This Shivalinga  is Swayambhu, the villagers found out when the old temple was under reconstruction. The curious villagers eager to explore the bottom of the Shivalinga, started digging with shovels . But all their efforts failed.

Secondly, unlike other Shiva temples, in here Goddess Gangabhavani gets worshiped in this temple instead of Goddess Parvati as the Shakti of Mahadev.

Although the two idols once stood side by side, during the reconstruction of the temple, separate shrines of him have been erected.

History, devotion, folk beliefs and wonderful natural beauty are hand in hand in this Kalyanpur. Therefore, one can come to Kalyanpur to remove the city’s dust and smoke from the monotonous body and mind and to sit in the green lap of Bengal’s nature and get a glimpse of the golden stick of Bengal’s glorious past.

How to go:- Take the train from Sealdah to Diamond Harbour, Kalyanpur is the next station after Baruipur station. From there one can reach Buroshiv temple by auto.
